Chris Hwirae Cho
Chris Cho, known professionally as HWIYO, is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, composer, and graduate of Berklee College of Music. With a distinctive style blending cinematic orchestration, pop-classical, and inspirational/corporate music, Chris has established himself as a versatile composer in the media music industry, with work distributed across over 60 countries.
As a media music composer, Chris collaborates with a wide array of companies across the US, Canada, and the EU. His music has been featured in some of the most prominent media outlets and platforms, including hit TV shows like ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, as well as major networks like ESPN, CNN, FOX, CW, and more. His compositions extend to a broad range of streaming platforms, including but not limited to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO, as well as many others across the globe. Chris’s ability to fuse orchestral elements with contemporary music styles has made his work a go-to for TV, film, and digital media productions.
Beyond media composition, Chris brings over 7 years of experience in musical theatre, where he has worked extensively as a music director, orchestrator, arranger, and music copyist. His background in musical theatre adds depth and versatility to his compositions, enabling him to create rich, emotionally resonant music that spans various genres and formats.
In 2025, Chris will attend the University of Canterbury’s Master of Teaching and Learning programme with the goal of becoming a music teacher in New Zealand. He is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of musicians, valuing the importance of education and the creative growth of young talent. With over 5 years of teaching experience, Chris is dedicated to helping students unlock their potential and thrive in music.
